The 2010 HOBY Leadership Seminar will be held at Adelphi University in Garden City, New York on Friday June 4 – Sunday June 6, 2010.
One hundred and twenty student ambassadors across the New York Metro area represented their high school and attended the seminar. These amazing HOBY Ambassadors participated in leadership workshops and team building exercises. They enthusiastically competed in the HOBY NY Metro Free Market Challenge and the HOBY Olympics. They met and interacted with leaders who excel in the business and non-profit fields. More importantly, our HOBY Ambassadors made new friends, developed life-long relationships, and were inspired to take everything they learned at HOBY and bring it back to their schools and communities.
It was an amazing weekend filled with light, enthusiasm, energy, cheering, fun, and inspiration. It will be hard to top this year’s seminar, but the HOBY NY Metro Planning Committee is already planning next year’s leadership seminar.
This weekend would not have been possible without the support and help of the parents, school counselors, volunteers, panelists, donors, sponsors, and the HOBY HY Metro Planning Committee. We want to thank everyone for their loving dedication, unfaltering devotion, and continued commitment to such a remarkable organization.
However, there is one group of people that deserve our thanks more than any other group. And that group is the HOBY NY Metro Ambassadors (go HOBY Revolution)! These incredible individuals participated in our program despite having to deal with final exams, AP exams, school sporting events, year-end academic competitions, and numerous other commitments. From behalf of the HOBY NY Metro Planning committee we want to thank our Ambassadors who “sizzled” and “got down” better than the rest (that’s an inside joke everyone!).

Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) was founded by actor Hugh O’Brian in 1958 after Dr. Albert Schweitzer impressed upon him that “the most important thing in education is to teach young people to think for themselves”.
Fifty years later, HOBY Leadership Seminars around the world continue to motivate and empower individuals to make a positive difference within our global society through understanding and action based on effective and compassionate leadership.
HOBY in New York
HOBY New York Metro has furthered HOBY’s vision through a three-day youth leadership seminar at a local college campus. Each year, our seminar hosts over 150 student ambassadors who are nominated by their high school to represent the best young leaders New York has to offer. The seminar allows ambassadors to meet other ambitious and passionate students who can encourage, challenge, and inspire them.
