The 2010 Leadership Seminar Committee

Kara Friedenberg, Director of Staff
Kara attended the HOBY Maryland seminar in 1993, and has been volunteering for the HOBY New York Metro & Long Island seminar for the past five years.  Kara is a Senior Manager in KPMG LLP’s Asset Management Tax practice.  She earned a BS in Economics with a concentration in Accounting from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and her MBA from Fordham University.  In addition to HOBY, Kara is involved in a number of other volunteer organizations, including Junior Achievement and Hedge Funds Care.

Resa Macalisang, Director of Programming
Resa has been a volunteer for HOBY New York Metro since 1996.  She was first introduced to HOBY while working at a Big 4 Consulting firm.  Her manager at the time invited her to a mandatory “meeting” which he said would help launch her career.  Several hundred volunteer hours later, she is attending her 12th HOBY Seminar.  Resa is currently a Principal with Acquis Consulting Group, a management consulting company that focuses on strategy and operational improvement.  At Acquis, Resa is the one inviting people to “meetings”.

Conrado Formanes, Technical Advisor
This is Conrado's third year volunteering with HOBY New York Metro. He decided to come back even though he got a pie in the face. He is an alumni of St. John's University earning a BS in Computer Science. He has been the Director of Information Technology for over 14 years for various companies.  In his spare time, he travels around the world and engages in extreme sports.

Catherine Ryan Leadership Seminar Chairperson
Catherine was introduced to HOBY at one of the Big 4 Accounting Firms and has been volunteering for the HOBY New York Metro & Long Island seminar and HOBY New York State on and off for the past fifteen years.  Catherine is a Management Coach and Project Manager who currently consults with companies to improve their performance on an individual or team basis. She earned a BA in Biological Chemistry and Latin from Wellesley College, her MA in Biochemistry from Harvard University, and five professional certificates from New York University SCPS.  In addition to HOBY, Catherine is involved in a number of other volunteer organizations, including Girl Scouts and The Educational Alliance.

Anton A. Konev, Alumni Advisor
Anton attended the HOBY New York South (as HOBY NY Metro was formally known) seminar in 1999, and has been volunteering for the HOBY New York Metro & Long Island seminar ever since. Anton is an Albany City Councilman and a Senior Legislative Assistant for New York State Assemblyman Peter M. Rivera. He earned his BA/MA in Political Science from the University at Albany, SUNY. In addition to HOBY, Anton is involved in a number of other volunteer and political organizations.

Mr. Konev has served most recently as New York State Capital Region Deputy Field Organizer for Obama for America and Albany for Obama co-coordinator. He was also treasurer for the Coalition to Save Albany and is currently executive director for the Coalition for Change. Anton Konev currently serves as Delmar Kiwanis International Club 1st Vice President, Empire Chapter of DeMolay International Advisory Council Chairman, member of the Committee on University – Community Relations, ex-officio member of Central Avenue Business Improvement District Board, and member of Pine Hills, Beverwyck, Washington Square, and Washington Park Neighborhood Associations.
